Introduction

This Diploma program in Gerontology/ Elder care is designed for individuals who wish to develop their careers in the field of Gerontology/Elder care and for those already employed or active in gerontology/elder care or related fields who wish to enhance their career paths. This course offers to ensure meaningful professional changes according to new opportunities and challenges creating by aging society. Upon completion of this program with interdisciplinary courses, the students are expected to be well equipped with problem-solving skills responding to a demand for a longer living and healthier life. It helps to prepare students to develop individualized career paths in the elder care based service industries.

This Diploma programme in Gerontology / Elder care is a part time study programme developed in line with the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) developed by the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework of the UGC in Sri Lanka and Quality Assurance Unit of the Ministry of Higher Education to promote national and international recognition of qualifications offered in Sri Lanka.

Aim

To produce professional related to gerontology/ elder care with the required knowledge, skills, attitude and mindset for best practice

Objectives

  • To produce quality professionals in field of care givers 
  • To enhance the professional skills of the practitioners in Elder Care
  • To develop the interventional capability of the practitioner

Medium - Sinhala/ Tamil

Duration - 21 months, including three months of field practice

Admission Requirements

  • Passing the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination

The Diploma in Gerontology / Elder care programme consists of the following components:

  • One Field Practicum unit
