CGS Webinar Series on “Gender and Media”

The CGS Webinar Series successfully conducted an engaging session on “Gender and Media” on 27th June 2025, from 7.30 PM to 9.30 PM, via Zoom. The webinar brought together a diverse audience of students, academics, media practitioners, and gender advocates, highlighting strong interest in understanding the role of media in shaping gender narratives. The session was led by Prof. Manoj Pushpakumara, Professor and Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya. Drawing on his extensive academic and professional experience, he provided critical insights into how media represents gender, reinforces stereotypes, and also serves as a powerful tool for social change. The discussion covered both traditional and digital media contexts, encouraging participants to reflect on responsible media practices and inclusive representation. Participants actively engaged through questions and discussion, making the session highly interactive and thought-provoking. Overall, the webinar was a successful and impactful programme, contributing meaningfully to ongoing conversations on gender equality and media responsibility, and reinforcing the commitment of the Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) to critical social dialogue.
