Community Support Initiative – Seeduwa Rajapaksapura Flood Relief Centre for Gender Studies – NISD
The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD) actively implemented a community support initiative in Seeduwa Rajapaksapura from 01 to 03 December 2025 in response to the flood disaster affecting the area. Over the three-day period, members of the Centre engaged in organizing and managing a community kitchen to provide essential meals and assistance to affected residents. The programme was carried out through collective donations received from staff, students, and well-wishers, ensuring timely and effective relief support. All donated items and services were distributed under the supervision of relevant government officers, ensuring transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution among affected families. In addition to material support, the initiative also focused on providing psychosocial support, offering emotional reassurance and guidance to individuals and families experiencing distress due to the disaster. This initiative reflects CGS–NISD’s strong commitment to social responsibility, compassion, and community engagement, while highlighting the importance of coordinated collective action in responding to humanitarian emergencies.
