NISD has a distinguished tradition of academic, training and research and prides itself in being the nesting ground for qualified and capable individuals in Sri Lankan education system. The excellent support you will receive here will help to transform your lives and prepare you to respond effectively to demands of the world of academic, research, training and the ever-present societal changes. NISD comprises School of Social Work, Training Division and Policy, Research and Publication Division. The School of Social Work offers Postgraduate, Graduate, Diploma and certificate programs in Social Work. These programs are focused on training and preparing professional Social Workers in the country. Besides those Social Work programs, the training division launched pre-service and in-service training programs for the welfare sector personnel in the public, Non-governmental and the voluntary sector.
The scholarly activities with which you will be engaged under the support of NISD may be quite different from those you have been accustomed to and therefore will require greater focus and discipline on your part. Under the wider disciplinary area of Social Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, Social Welfare and Social Development, we offer a variety of programmes and training courses to allow for flexibility with career choices. One of our primary responsibilities is to train generation of young capable social workers, counsellors, care givers and researchers who will be equipped to analyze complex human problems and aid in their solutions. In this regard, NISD is planning to make a significant contribution to local, regional and international development. This responsibility is even more relevant in the increasingly complex and ever-changing local and global environment.
