Mr. B.K.S. Karunarathna

B.K.S. Karunarathna earned BA (Honors) in Criminology and Criminal Justice System from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in 2006.  Beginning his career as a probation officer Department of Probation and Childcare services in Eastern Province for a period of six years. Then in 2013, He joined the National Institute of Social Development as a training officer. Accordingly, for a period of ten years from 2013 to 2023. As a training officer of the institute, He has been providing resources for various training programs at the national level.  his contributions of this Institute conducting lectures in academic programs, curriculum development, coordination of training programs. As a training officer his most important training areas such as social work, social development, counselling, Child protection and Human Rights. In 2024, with the National Institute of Social Development’s ambition to transition into a university. by this time Karunarathna embraced the role of Lecturer in the Department of counselling and psychology. as well as he appointed as a director of student welfare unit.

Among the milestones in his academic life, He received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice System in 2006, successfully completed the Diploma Course in Child Protection at the National Institute of Social Development in the year 2015, successfully completed the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Counseling at the University of Colombo in 2015 and the successful completion of the Master of Social Work degree at the National Institute of Social Development in the year 2022. 

As a lecturer his future vision is to dedicate himself to effectively use his subject knowledge of social work, counseling and criminology and child protection for the development of Sri Lankan society.
