Training Officer, Department of Psychology and Counselling
“I am Ironne Jayasekara, and it’s a pleasure to introduce myself to you. My academic journey has been a tapestry of exploration and growth, deeply rooted in the study of human behavior and societal dynamics. I pursued my undergraduate studies in Sociology, where I discovered a profound fascination for the intersection of Counseling and Psychology within social contexts.
Beyond the confines of academia, my convictions lie firmly in the power of collaboration and community engagement. I have actively engaged in various volunteer initiatives, driven by a passion to empower underprivileged communities through education and technology. These experiences have not only broadened my perspective but have also instilled within me a profound sense of empathy and social responsibility.
Professionally, I have been fortunate to immerse myself in dynamic environments where innovation and creativity flourish, particularly within the realm of Sociology and Social work. I am deeply drawn to utilizing new technologies to facilitate positive change, especially in marginalized communities. My journey is fueled by a desire to bridge gaps and create inclusive spaces where every voice is heard and valued.
In my work, I am driven by the belief that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and opportunities for growth. I find immense fulfillment in collaborating with diverse teams and leveraging our collective strengths to address societal challenges and foster meaningful transformations.
Outside of my professional pursuits, I am an avid enthusiast of exploring new technologies and methodologies that can amplify social impact. I find solace and inspiration in working alongside marginalized populations, learning from their experiences, and advocating for their rights and well-being.”

- Technology and Social Behavior: I am deeply intrigued by the ways in which technology shapes and influences human behavior, interactions, and societal norms. My research aims to unravel the complex relationships between technology adoption, digital communication patterns, and their impact on social dynamics and relationships.
- Drug Addiction: Understanding the multifaceted nature of drug addiction and its implications on individuals, families, and communities is a central focus of my research. I am interested in exploring the socio-cultural, psychological, and biological factors that contribute to addiction, as well as developing effective intervention strategies and support systems for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
- Medical Social Work: As a passionate advocate for holistic healthcare, I am committed to exploring the intersection of medical practice and social work. My research delves into the role of social workers in healthcare settings, patient advocacy, access to healthcare services, and the psychosocial aspects of illness and recovery.
- Counselling and Society: Counseling plays a pivotal role in promoting mental health, fostering resilience, and addressing psychosocial challenges within society. I am dedicated to investigating the cultural, ethical, and systemic dimensions of counseling practice, with a focus on enhancing counseling effectiveness, accessibility, and inclusivity.
