Sandya Sirikumara earned a Bachelor of Arts
(Honours) degree in Sociology from the University of Kelaniya in 2009,
graduating with First Class Honours and receiving the prestigious Gold Medal
for Best Performer of the 2004/2005 batch. Demonstrating a continuous pursuit of
academic excellence, she completed a Master’s Degree in Sociology at the
University of Kelaniya in 2013, alongside a Certificate Course in Research from
the Open University of Sri Lanka. Additionally, she obtained a Master’s
qualification in Social Work from the National Institute of Social Development.
These accomplishments reflect her unwavering commitment to academic excellence
and scholarly dedication. Currently, Ms. Sirikumara is preparing to pursue
doctoral studies to further her expertise.
Ms. Sirikumara commenced her professional journey as an Assistant Lecturer
in the Department of Sociology at the University of Kelaniya, dedicating one
year to this role. In 2013, she transitioned to the National Institute of
Social Development as a Research Assistant. Her exceptional performance led to
her promotion to Research Officer in 2014, where she contributed significantly
to research initiatives within the Social Development Policy, Research, and
Publication Division. Her research contributions span diverse domains,
including social work, social development, and social policy formulation in Sri
Lankan society.
In 2023, following the National Institute of Social Development’s strategic
vision to evolve into a university, Ms. Sirikumara advanced to the position of
Lecturer II in the Department of Sociology, reinforcing her pivotal role within
the institution. Beyond her formal roles, she actively participates in national
and international conferences, undertaking both academic and administrative
responsibilities.
Ms. Sirikumara is a humble and lifelong learner, continuously seeking to
enhance her knowledge, skills, and competencies. Guided by a strong sense of
purpose, her vision is to become an ethical and dedicated professional social
worker, committed to providing compassionate and effective interventions for
the betterment of humanity.
