Rural Camp 2025: Service Delivery in Human Settlements

The Rural Camp is a vital component of academic training for students pursuing a degree in Social Work. Designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world application, the camp offers an immersive 10-day experience that enables students to engage directly with rural communities and apply core social work methods in a practical setting.
The 2025 Rural Camp took place from 17th to 27th June in the Seruwila and Kuchchaveli Divisional Secretariats, located in the Trincomalee District. During this period, students were actively involved in identifying both the strengths and key challenges within the communities, focusing on areas such as public services, education, livelihood and economy, health, and socio-cultural needs.
This field-based learning experience goes far beyond academic exposure—it represents a transformative journey that deepens students’ understanding of the complex social, economic, and cultural dynamics of rural life. Through direct engagement and hands-on practice, students cultivate empathy, refine their practical skills, and gain valuable professional insight that will guide them in their future roles as social work practitioners.
