School Awareness Programme on Gender Equality and Respect – Session 2
The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD), through its Student Working Committee, successfully conducted a School Awareness Programme on Gender Equality and Respect at WP/NG/Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya (National School) on 17th December 2025. While the programme was originally planned for Grade 10 students, the voluntary participation of Grade 11 students enhanced its inclusivity and overall impact.
Implemented in line with an approved project proposal, the session titled “Building Equality and Respect: A School Awareness Programme on Gender and Inclusion” was held from 12.00 noon to 1.30 p.m., engaging over 90 students and teachers through interactive and participatory learning methods. Students actively took part in discussions, activities, and real-life examples related to equality, respect, and responsible behaviour. Awareness bookmarks with essential support and helpline information were distributed, encouraging help-seeking behaviour.
The programme received strong positive feedback from students, teachers, and school authorities. The Vice Principal formally invited CGS to conduct future programmes, and teachers requested a separate session for the Prefect Board, highlighting the programme’s relevance, credibility, and success.
