Second Curriculum Review Workshop

The National Institute of Social Development (NISD) conducted its second Curriculum Review Workshop for the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) programme on June 16th, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the NISD premises. The workshop, held under the guidance of Senior Professor Wasantha Subasinghe, Director General of NISD, brought together all academic staff members to collaboratively review and enhance the current curriculum in line with evolving academic and professional standards.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Deepthi Niroshika, Director of the Curriculum Development Committee, who emphasized the significance of collective engagement in shaping an academically robust and practice-oriented curriculum. The objectives of the workshop were clearly outlined by Ms. Gowry Vasudevan, Additional Director (Academic), NISD. The resource person for the workshop was Professor Priyanganie Senanayake from the University of Kelaniya, who brought valuable perspectives to the session.
Throughout the day, faculty members engaged in meaningful dialogue with the resource person contributing insights and suggestions to strengthen the BSW and MSW curriculum framework. Discussions focused on aligning the programmes with contemporary trends in social work education and the competencies expected by the profession.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from the academic team to uphold excellence in social work education and to continuously adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of both students and the wider community.
