Strengthening Psychosocial Wellbeing and Gender Equity among Single-Parent Families in the Gampaha District

The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD) successfully conducted an awareness programme in the Gampaha District on 16 October 2025, targeting single parents of children receiving educational assistance. The programme was delivered by Ms. Chamari Thabrew, Lecturer, with the aim of strengthening psychosocial wellbeing and minimizing gender-related issues within families. Through interactive lectures and guided discussions, participants were provided with practical knowledge and skills to promote healthier family relationships and create a more supportive and equitable home environment. The programme further emphasized the importance of family cooperation in enhancing the wellbeing of school children, explored effective solutions to psychosocial challenges faced by students, and addressed common gender-related psychosocial issues within the wider community, contributing to greater awareness and positive social change at the district level.
