The Voice of Gender Equity

The National Institute of Social Development (NISD) successfully conducted “The Voice of Gender Equity,” a comprehensive Gender Awareness Program aimed at deepening the understanding of gender among members of the Gender Committee. The program fostered knowledge and strategies to guide the Committee’s future work plan, introduced the new Executive Board and Working Committee, and empowered members to explore and address critical gender issues. Participants engaged in workshops, discussions, and activities aligned with core social work values, such as empowerment, social justice, and community participation. Esteemed resource persons, including Mrs. Manjula Wijesekara (Senior Lecturer), Mr. Ironne Prasad Jayasekara (Training Officer), and Mrs. Chamari Thabrew (Lecturer), shared their expertise, providing valuable insights that enhanced the learning experience and promoted social change. Senior Professor Wasantha Subhasinghe, Director General of NISD, provided the necessary guidance and advice that contributed to the success of the program. Held on the 28th of February 2025 at the NISD Conference Hall, this event, organized by the Centre for Gender Studies at NISD, successfully laid the foundation for future initiatives promoting gender equality and justice.
