
Building Equality and Respect: A School Awareness Programme on Gender and Inclusion – Session 1
The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD), through its Student Working Committee, successfully conducted a School Awareness Programme on Gender Equality and Respect for Grade 09 students at WP/NG/Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya (National School) on 17th December 2025. Titled “Building Equality and Respect: A School Awareness Programme on Gender and Inclusion,” the initiative aimed to promote awareness, respectful attitudes, and inclusive behaviour among school students.
The one-day interactive session, held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., engaged approximately 120 students and teachers through participatory methods such as group discussions, role-plays, and question-and-answer segments. Students actively participated and demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the programme. Awareness bookmarks containing important support services and helpline information were distributed to encourage help-seeking behaviour. Teachers provided positive feedback, highlighting the relevance and clarity of the session. Overall, the programme contributed to improved understanding of gender equality, respect, and inclusion, while fostering a safe and supportive learning environment within the school community.
